Trust Agents 101

by Joyce McKee on August 23, 2009

The URL – TrustAgents101 -  has been secured and  soon  that blog will be up and running.  (Of course using a Thesis theme, like this one.)  In the meantime, I will use this blog to start the conversation about my experiment.

To refresh your memory, I am using the movie, Julie and Julia as a format for my experiment.  I am reading Chris Brogan and Julien Smith’s book, Trust Agents and will document how I am applying their ideas (along with the blog posts) and see how it transforms  my business life, increases my social capital, sphere of influence, etc.

This will be Joyce McKee’s version of becoming a Trust Agent.  I consider myself a Trust Agent “in-training”.  I am creating this on the fly – so we will see what happens to it over time.  Hopefully, it will visibly demonstrate the principles set forth in the social media community via people and books written by the likes of Chris Brogan and others are sound.

Making this my own game – that is a point Chris and Julian shared while they were on the stage of Gnomedex during the keynote.  So I will place the Joyce McKee “spin” on their ideas.  I am curious to see how others will interpret the same facts, suggestions and recommendations from their book, blog posts, podcasts, and other media outlets.  Each of our unique cultures will dictate that individual expression of their ideas.

Benchmarking the Starting Point – Current Digital Footprint

There are free services which will provide your current status on the web.  So I checked them out and now I know my current status.  This data will establish my digital footprint before the experiment starts.  Here are the tools I used:

  • Grader www.grader.com: they will check your Twitter, website and blog for free and give you a ranking.
  • Twitter www.twinfluence.com: they score your Twitter influence
  • LinkedIn connects – how many people are a part of my tribe

Now there will be other tools I will use once I have the site up and running.  Those will include the Alexa ranking, Google Analytics, Grader, Xinureturns and others as I find them.  If you know of another FREE tool I could use, please let me know!

One of my hopes is that I might find a Sponsor for this venture.  This should be an interesting study in “implementation” of ideas and measuring the results.

Action Item from Chris

In a blog post last Thursday titled: Simple Touchpoints of Loyalty he recommended that we “Send 10 emails a day to people you’re in danger of falling out of touch with, and make them simple and request-free”.  So that action item I am working on today – figuring out who those folks might be and creating a warm message to them that is ’simple and request-free”.  I want to start this action item on Monday August 24.

Now to continue to reading and making notes through out his book.  If you have not purchased it, I would recommend you do so.  I would enjoy company along this path – so please share with me how you are using social media to enhance your life.

Part 2 – No Lead Follow-up = Zero Sales

August 10, 2009

Last week I had asked my network on LinkedIn about trade show lead follow-up.  Here are a couple more responses:
Bob Kelley, CEM, CMM wrote:
Great question and I would be interested in how many honest answers you receive. Part of the problem may be in how the booth is manned, part of the problem may be [...]

No Lead Follow-up = Zero Sales

August 7, 2009

This week I placed a question on LinkedIn asking for input from my colleagues. The question:
Curious as to why there seems to be very little rage that a trade show attendee is never followed up?
I would like to understand why exhibitors feel they can ignore the attendee who visited their booth and requested some [...]
