It has been a real shock – our industry who cares so much about how we look on the show floor has dismal, even pathetic websites. That is a bold statement, but I have spent many hours reviewing hundreds of sites for an upcoming webinar on Trade Show Blogging. I am stunned that so little thought has gone into some of these sites.
Potential customers are using Google to find suppliers and then they land on these sites which have nothing to say.
Free Tools to Assess Your Site
There is a wonderful free tool which can help you evaluate your site. It is called Grader and you can find it at www.grader.com. Not only does it score your site, they provide a road map of what to fix. As an example, if your Meta tags are empty, they denote that.
For this site, I have a score of 94. I need more inbound links, which I am working on so my score will be closer to 100.
I am proud to say the CEIR blog which I facilitate has a score of 94. The overall CEIR site is scored at 97 – not bad. IAEE is rated at 95 and The Center is at 95 also. When you score in the 90’s overall you are doing OK – there is room for improvement, but you have a good site.
BTW – Mr. Social Media, Chris Brogan’s site comes in at 99.7!!! But I rather expect that. Hopefully I will be there one day soon.
Alexa is another free tool. Go to that site, enter your web address and it will tell you where you ranking in all websites world wide. The goal is to be in the top 100,000. Those who have a score of less than 100,000 are the internet’s mover’s and shakers.
This site is ranked today at 480,086. So I have more work to do to be a top site.
Come on guys, get with it!! Make sure an assessment of your web presence is a part of your 2010 marketing objectives.
And save December 1st and 2nd for my blogging webinars. The invitation is being finalized now.
