CES Update: How effective is this massive trade show?

By Joyce McKee | January 9, 2008

No other show dominates the media like the CES show!!

The TV - cable reports, along with newspapers, blogs world wide report on all the activities that are currently taking place on and off the show floor.

For the journalists, CES made a distinction in their badges – they have ones for Press and ones for Bloggers.  I could have been in the room at the press briefing!

On yesterday’s CNN report, they call CES a “Window into the future” and to be there is to be “in gadget heaven”.

Some statistics they shared for the viewers are:  the size of the show is 1.8 million square feet or 35 football fields.  There are 2,700 exhibitors.  And if you saw each exhibitor, it would take 2 and half years.

There is no way to see all that is on display at the show.

I know from personal experience that an attendee can get into an “overload” situation and be walking in a trance on the show floor.  Then to find the booths you want to see can be a daunting effort.

CES has a tool to help the visitor plan their time for maximum benefit.  It is called, My CES Personal Planner.  They describe it as a way to “find companies, products and sessions to match your objectives.  The attendee can “build your personal CES Event Plan”.

Technology is wonderful and this tool can aid the attendee to have the best experience possible.  Now I wonder, out of the 140,000 people there, how many actually used the tool.

That is now my mission, to discover how effective this was for CES and the attendee!

I will report my findings to you after I have talked with BD Metrics, the folks behind ’My Personal Planner.’  They’ve agreed to share their numbers with us and it will be interesting to actually hear how viable this tool was for all parties involved!

Stay tuned…
