Emerge: Special Conference on Embracing Technology Enhance Customer Relationships

Yesterday at EXPO EXPO there was a special conference on technology called Emerge. A panel discussed the various emerging technologies which effect show organizers and ultimately their clients - the attendees and exhibitors. I was especially interested in the conversations around Web 2.0 and the use of social media.
The room was full of show organizers who are wanting to learn how to use the new tools available to them. I asked the question “who is using Web 2.0 effectively now?” A reporter from Tradeshow Week was able to site 3 shows that had done a good job implementing Web 2.0. Congratulations to them!

Another interesting observation was the comments on their own Emerge blog. At first it started out slow and they had to prod each other to post blog entries, but in the last 44 days leading up to the show, over 2,000 views had taken place and comments were beginning to be posted in response to the blog entries. They were creating a central source for a discussion on technology and its impact on trade shows.
Momentum has started - and it will be very interesting to watch ithe use of technology to enhance relationships grow. The participants were asking questions, wanting to really understand how they could do a better job and have technology work for them.
I’ll keep you posted.
