Macworld update: Critics are a dime a dozen
By Joyce McKee | January 16, 2008
The technology world is getting a second helping of announcements this week with Macworld.
Yesterday the devotees of Steve Jobs were hanging on his every word. There were several bloggers who gave a moment-by –moment account of his keynote speech.
I must have missed that when Bill Gates spoke. The anticipation was running high for what he had to say.
Then today as I read the papers and blogs, there seems to be disappointment that it was not ‘more’.
What do they want?
The bar of excitement keeps being raised and if by chance, a company does not exceed that bar, there is disappointment.
It seems to be so unfair to me.
There are some contrasts that are worth noting, for the record.
The numbers at Macworld are around 50,000 attendees and 400 exhibitors.
Now compare that to CES - who had 140,000 attendees with 2,700 exhibitors.
Apple is generating quite a bit of press about their new products – MacBook Air, iPhone and iPod software upgrades, iTunes movie rentals and Apple TV, and Time Capsule.
Maybe the comparison between the two is off, but I believe Apple is definitely holding its own.
As it has always been, it’s the MAC vs. the rest of the world.
We need to be cheering on all of the suppliers who offer us products that will make our lives easier and more enjoyable. These giants are creating new categories of companies who support these products.
In that regard, I was on the INC Magazine site and listened to a briefing with an entrepreneur who was supporting the music industry with custom eye pieces.
Her business has grown substantially due to the iPod and the iPhone.
The users who truly want the best sound from these tiny devices are forking over large sums of money for the ear pieces. She is just one example of small business that is created to support Apple’s technology and products.
She is Mindy Harvey of Ultimate Ears and the interview is here:

Tomorrow we have the results from My Personal Planner that CES offered to the attendees.
Talk about technology that makes life easier…
Until next time…
