The world turns it’s attention to CES in Las Vegas
By Joyce McKee | January 8, 2008
This week the Consumer Electronic Association holds its annual convention and exhibition in Las Vegas. It is the largest US show.
This is from their website:
The first CES took place in New York City in June of 1967 with 200 exhibitors and 17,500 attendees. Since then, CES has grown more than eleven-fold. Now 2,700 exhibitors, fill 1.8 million net square feet of exhibit space to showcase their latest products and services to more than 140,000 attendees.
Exhibitors of all sizes will be vying for the attention of those 140,000 attendees.
At EXPO EXPO I had the privilege of attending a breakfast with other executives in the trade show industry.
CES has one of their exhibitors there. Noel Lee is the Founder of Monster Cable, which now dominates the show floor. But back in 1978, his first show, he shared a 10 x 10 booth as he introduced his first product to the industry. The story of how he grew from that small exhibit space to one where he is a key figure of the show is amazing to hear.
His parties are legendary – this year Mary J. Blige will be there.
There are thousand of stories of exhibitors who have taken the “chance” and used the trade show floor to launch products and services to their customers and prospects.
Right now, Donny Deutsch is hosting a special series of his show, The Big Idea on CNBC around the Road to CES. He is highlighting the small entrepreneurial companies who will be exhibiting at CES.
Some leaders, like Noel Lee have been providing advice to these newbie’s so that they can have an impact on the show floor.

This blog will be watching from the side lines what all takes place at CES and reporting the highlights.
There is much to learn from the CES model that can help an exhibitor grow their company using the trade show floor.
And that is what this site is all about – sharing those tools, tips and strategies to have the best show ever!
I’ll have more comments about CES tomorrow.
