Wisdom for the Economic Storms

By Joyce McKee | October 9, 2008

In the world of events and face to face marketing there is a repository of vast knowledge - Doug Ducate.  One can ask a question and this incredible resource has answers, backed up with statistics and wisdom.

I have the privilege to facilitate the Center for Exhibition Industry Research’s (CEIR) new blog.  In this week’s post I ask Doug about the government bailout, how that will impact the event industry.  His answer was succinct and worth listening to - so visit http://blog.ceir.org and listen to his response.  While you are there, check out some of the other posts on the site too.

On a personal note, there has been a new addition to my household.  I am the proud owner of a black standard poodle puppy.  She is the 6th one in the last 20 years.  I have yet to find the correct name.  Maybe you can help me - her Mother is Dancer and the Father is Tango.  So I want to use a dancing theme for this bundle of energy.

He looks like his name might be ‘Jangles…short for Bojangles.

“He jumped so high, jumped so high
    Then he lightly touched down”

Looks like he lightly touched down right on that flower pot!

    How about Hula?

Its a popular dance that most people know of, and can also work as a dog’s name.

She is precious! I had a black poodle just like her when I was growing up…her name was Daisy. But onto the fun of naming her! If she is a frisky one, how about Cha Cha or Zoomba?

She is absolutely gorgeous!! Can you sense my puppy envy? I want a dog so badly, but must first get the travel business flowing as I desire so I can be home to take care of her. I vote for Cha-Cha.

    Bundle of energy? Dance theme?

Has to be Limbo or Jigs. Kind of non-gender specific but they work.

Congrats on your new puppy! It always seemed to me that Standards dance their way through life, so giving her a dancing name sounds right. How about “Claquette”, which is French for tap. When their toenails get too long they always sound like they’re tap dancing! Did you know that 100 years ago there were two kinds of Standard poodles? Black standards often carry the thicker coats of the curly-coated vs. the straighter coats of the lighter poodles.

What a cutie! She reminds me of poodle skirts. How about Jitterbug?
